This is a very difficult time for our country and in particular, for our industry. With the hope that “nothing lasts forever” I believe that slowly life will return to normal, although this ‘normal’ may not be the same as the one that has passed. We will have to look at each aspect of our life with a different perspective and not take a lot of things for granted. Our industry has faced many challenges in the past and I do not doubt that it will emerge stronger and more resilient
after this crisis is over. And in our hearts, we will continue to remember, and pray for, those who lost their lives and loved ones.

Vikram Oberoi, CEO & MD, EIH Ltd.

The Oberoi Hotels and Resorts’ team has been at the frontline during the COVID crisis. Several innovative ideas were shared by the team, who were operating out of their homes during the lockdown. The Oberoi teams, who have built deep friendships with many of their guests over years, touched base with them to check on their wellbeing.

The Oberoi Group conducted various e-learning sessions for a variety of roles across the organisation through multiple online platforms. Various fitness and physical training programmes were also conducted at their hotels to keep the teams fit, motivated and engaged.

All Oberoi and Trident hotels distributed packed meals and essential supplies during the lockdown through government agencies, NGOs and local authorities to those struggling to make ends meet, as well as for the brave and courageous hospital staff and other key frontline workers.

Frontline Heroes

It will not be fair for me to name two people as our entire team has been exemplary during the crisis. We are incredibly proud of the commitment and the extraordinary work done by our colleagues during the lockdown—be it through our food distribution initiative or looking after people, who are staying away from their family at our hotels during the lockdown, with utmost care. Without exception, each of our colleagues helped to touch the lives of our guests or the community in a meaningful way. 

Many people also came together to develop our new and detailed hygiene and safety standards that continue to ensure the safety of our guests as well as our colleagues. We made these detailed and comprehensive standards available to anyone who wished to use them by placing them in their entirety on the Oberoi and Trident websites. By doing this, I hope we have been able to help people to take the same steps to enhance hygiene and safety standards at their homes or even within our industry.
