Hilton India

The COVID-19 pandemic has forever altered our industry but because of Hilton’s resilience and grit during these challenging times, we are well-positioned to play a leadership role in redefining hospitality beyond this crisis. As the landscape continues to evolve rapidly, we are well-prepared to respond to the ever-changing needs of our owners, guests, team members and communities. I believe that when history looks back at 2020, Hilton will be an important chapter of the story about how the hospitality industry bounced back. As we begin our road to recovery, we need to stay focused and double-down on our strategy— continuing to lead with our culture, being as efficient and as effective as possible while protecting and enhancing our reputation. It means continuing to dig deep into what our customers want and exceeding their expectations with experiences that are reliable, friendly and deeply hospitable. And finally, through it all, our team members have supported each other as we pushed through the moments that tested us—guided by our strong values and our founding belief that travel has the power to change the world.

Power List 2020: Hilton Hotels & Resorts

The Hilton Hotels and Resorts’ properties put themselves out there to help the larger community across their group hotels.

DoubleTree by Hilton, Gurgaon was amongst the first in the region to provide mid-day meal packets to the police personnel on duty and to the underprivileged communities. The team packed and personally met daily wage workers to hand over the nutritious meal packets. They also approached the nearby slum communities, where daily wage working women had lost their jobs and handed them and their children food packets.

At the DoubleTree by Hilton, Pune, under the community outreach initiative, team members identified an area that had several daily wage migrant labourers stuck in the city due to the lockdown and with no means to earn a living. The team distributed approximately 150 meal packets.

New Delhi, with a growing number of cases in March, was struggling to grapple with the situation. There were many instances where frontline health workers were publicly ostracised and denied entry into their localities. Hilton Garden Inn Delhi opened its doors to accommodate frontline doctors from one of the primary hospitals treating Covid19 patients—the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

Hilton also activated a Team Member Assistance Fund to help employees who suffered a direct impact or have a family member impacted by COVID-19 job losses. Hilton’s team members have been making points (converted to cash) and monetary donations to the Fund since the crisis began in China. The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on the travel industry and yet, Hilton continued to deliver hospitality during this crisis. Across the world, hotels donated excess food to local pantries. The group is assisting local and national governments to provide housing for first responders and healthcare workers.

The Hilton Effect Foundation, the company’s charitable arm, is investing in grants to support organizations fighting the spread of infection and aiding communities in need. World Central Kitchen, Direct Relief and Project Hope are among the charities whose work will directly help those harmed by the pandemic.

Hilton also inspired the Hilton Honors members to donate their points (converted to cash) to these worthwhile organizations.

Frontline Heroes

Naveen Dagar, Security Manager, Hilton Garden Inn Baani, Gurgaon

During a midday meal distributing initiative, Naveen Dagar met a migrant worker who was hungry and unwell but could not afford to buy medicines. Dagar enquired how he was feeling, and bought him general symptomatic relief Over the Counter medicines at his own expense.

Akash Rathor, F&B, Hilton Garden Inn Lucknow

Akash Rathor rallied a few of his colleagues to make face masks at home from whatever clothing material they could gather. The team then distributed these masks to villagers around the hotel, besides informing them about why it was important to wear face masks to keep away from getting infected by the coronavirus infection.
