Pride Hotels
With safe and responsible re-opening of the travel and tourism industry, we have rolled out quite a few initiatives to help the group bounce back. Initiatives such as ‘Work with Pride’ were launched for working professionals and ‘India Dekho with Pride’ for avid travellers. Moreover, we launched our first-ever ‘Holiday Bond’ for future travel. Our Pride Escape, Staycation and Drivecation packages will help people to travel more. This new normal era is a kind we haven’t witnessed before. It will prove transformative for our industry as well as for our guests. In the post-COVID era, guests will demand contactless/ minimum contact services and a safe and hygienic environment. And for that, we will need to adapt and re-skill ourselves. Instilling a sense of safety in our guests will play a huge role. As an industry, we should be ready to adapt our approach towards the new travellers who are locked safely in the confines of their home at the moment. Our vision is to create that safe space.
The Pride Hotels rose to the occasion and distributed more than 25,000 food packets to the vulnerable sections of society, besides providing food assistance to an old-age home, corona healthcare warriors and the police force during COVID-induced lockdown.
The group hotels used their hygiene-based services to sanitise old age homes and orphanages in Delhi, Pune and Kolkata. Pride Hotels accommodated doctors working with COVID centres and hospitals with a
clear thought that it wasn’t a business- first prospect, but their social duty to provide a comfortable space
to the medical staff who had dedicated themselves to the fight against coronavirus.
Pride Hotels stepped forward to help employees and their families infected by the novel coronavirus, liaison with local authorities to ensure proper medical care and moral support. The group got their symptomatic employees tested free of cost through government networks, or by reimbursing a substantial amount of the test when done privately.
Frontline Heroes
Karthikeyan, Engineering Shift Supervisor, Pride Hotel Chennai
In April, when Pride Hotel Chennai was preparing to welcome the medical staff to be housed in the property, they faced a challenge: The hotel chiller broke down in the afternoon and couldn’t be repaired until evening, since resources weren’t easily available due to the restriction of movement.
Karthikeyan stayed in the hotel till late at night, to set up a makeshift arrangement to operate the plant. He also connected with several of his old sources to get the necessary parts required to repair the equipment. The restrictions were strict and even hotel cars weren’t being allowed to ply, nor were any -passes being issued at that time. So, early the next morning, at 5:30 am, he set out on his bicycle for the mechanic’s workshop, located at a distance of 22km from the hotel, convinced him to give him the part required and cycled back, where he installed it with the support of the AMC personnel.
While Karthikeyan may have done this out of a sense of duty, in the organisation his gesture was highly appreciated.
Sahil Lama, F&B and Guest Service Associate, Pride Hotel Chennai
When the hotel began welcoming doctors involved in the fight against novel coronavirus, Sahil Lama single-handedly took charge of two of the floors they were housed on. He ensured that a service request was fulfilled within five minutes of it being made, which earned him appreciation from the doctors.
Though part of the F&B service team, he helped the kitchen team cook delicious north-eastern food for a doctor from the north-east, who is working and living in Chennai. Lama worked straight shifts, clocking 12-13 hours days till more team members were deployed in his department.
