Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok, marking the company’s entry into the retreat hotel segment in Sikkim. The 38-room property is located on a hilltop in Pangthang, offering unobstructed views of the Eastern Himalayas, with Mount Kanchenjunga visible from the resort.
Set amid pine plantations and natural mountain landscapes, the retreat is designed for travellers seeking peace, seclusion, and a slower, more immersive travel experience. While within driving distance of Gangtok’s township, its elevated setting creates a calm escape away from the city’s bustle.
Leadership quote on destination-led mountain hospitality
Commenting on the launch, Sumit Mitruka, Founder & Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said the region is seeing growing interest from travellers seeking deeper engagement with nature and a stronger sense of place beyond conventional sightseeing. He added that Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects the group’s evolving approach to destination-led hospitality in the mountains, where wellness, environment, and local context come together subtly. The launch also strengthens Summit’s Northeast presence and aligns with its long-term vision of developing distinctive destination hotels.
Room categories designed for views and longer stays
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang features 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. All rooms come with private balconies to ensure uninterrupted Himalayan views. Select suites also include separate living and dining areas, making them suitable for longer stays.
In alignment with regional climate needs and sustainability considerations, rooms do not include air conditioning or minibars.
Wellness at the heart of the retreat
Wellness is positioned as a core pillar of the guest experience. The retreat includes a dedicated spa offering specialised treatments, along with thoughtfully designed spaces for yoga and meditation. These offerings are curated to deliver rest, escape, and rejuvenation—enhanced by the calm surroundings and panoramic views.
Dining, sun deck, and event-ready spaces
The property features a multi-cuisine restaurant serving regional Sikkimese flavours alongside Indian and international dishes. A sun deck overlooking Kanchenjunga adds an immersive nature-led element to the stay experience.
For gatherings and celebrations, Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang also offers a banquet hall of approximately 5,000 sq ft that can accommodate over 500 guests, making it suitable for destination events, retreats, and intimate social functions.
