Mayfair brings luxury dining to India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper

Luxury regional dining from Bengal and Assam to elevate overnight rail travel on the Howrah–Kamakhya route.

Mayfair Spring Valley Resort, Guwahati partnered with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) as the official caterer for India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Operating on the Howrah–Kamakhya (Guwahati) route, the new service marks a significant step forward in premium overnight rail travel, with Mayfair bringing its signature dining experience onboard.

Curated menus featuring authentic Bengal and Assam flavours

As one of the first luxury hospitality brands to curate food for a Vande Bharat sleeper service, Mayfair Spring Valley Resort will serve passengers a regional spread featuring West Bengal and Assam delicacies, prepared using locally sourced ingredients.

The menu includes classics such as Basanti pulao, cholar and moong dal, chanar and dhokar preparations, Assamese joha rice, mati mohor and masoor dali, seasonal vegetable bhajis, and traditional desserts like sandesh, narikol burfi, and rasgulla—bringing a rich cultural flavour to the journey.

Comfort-first meals designed for overnight travel

The onboard menus have been thoughtfully planned to balance familiarity with regional identity. The focus remains on wholesome vegetarian meals that feel easy and comforting during long-distance travel, without losing the authenticity of local culinary traditions.

Seasonal produce, slow-cooked preparations, gentle spice profiles, and time-honoured sweets form the backbone of the experience—ensuring meals remain flavourful yet travel-friendly for passengers onboard.
