Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey has revealed that India is now the second most sustainability-conscious travel market in Asia. With 82% of Indian travelers incorporating sustainability into their 2025 travel plans, India’s commitment to green travel is well above the Asian average of 68%.
This survey, conducted across 11 Asian markets with over 6,000 respondents, highlights the evolving trends in sustainable travel, including a focus on authentic tourism and off-peak travel, as well as a shift towards more conscious choices in the way people explore the world.
Personal Values Lead the Way
Indian travelers are increasingly making travel decisions based on personal values and a desire for meaningful experiences. Nearly a quarter of respondents (24%) cited personal beliefs and values as their primary motivation for choosing sustainable travel. Additionally, 21% of respondents are seeking more authentic and purposeful tourism, reflecting a growing interest in travel that benefits both the traveler and the destination.
Conscious Travel Choices on the Rise
The survey also highlighted that Indian travelers are actively making choices to minimize their environmental impact. 21% of respondents said they prefer to travel during off-peak seasons to avoid overcrowding, while 16% of respondents each opted for eco-friendly actions such as choosing accommodations with sustainability certifications, using public transportation, or packing reusable items like water bottles.
