South Indian food has long been part of Mumbai’s daily dining culture. With the opening of its 20th outlet on 22nd January, Banana Leaf adds a second address in Kandivali, expanding its presence across Makabo.
Familiar favourites and playful additions
Banana Leaf’s menu centres on South Indian staples such as Kara Masala Dosa, Thuppa Sada Dosa and Mysore Masala, alongside the traditional trio of idli, wadai and dosa. It also includes variations like Pav Bhaji Dosa, paneer preparations, ragi and sweet dosas, multiple rasam rice and idli options, and regional biryanis. Dishes such as Mushroom Veg Oats Uttapam, the Upma–Sheera combo and Thairu Sadham feature alongside the Rajni Dosa, while the Bites & Brews section adds chaats, smoothies, filter coffee and coconut-based beverages.
A space that travels south
Step inside, and the experience goes beyond the leaf. Earthy wooden decor, temple-inspired murals, and Carnatic instrumentals instantly transport you to Madurai. Ideal for family lunches, relaxed plans, the service here eases you in with an Indian touch of namaste.
A growing neighbourhood presence
Suraj Shetty, Managing Director, shares, “Every new outlet for us is about reaching more people without changing who we are. The Kandivali audience has embraced us over the years, and this second outlet in the suburb felt like the natural next step. For us, South Indian food is an emotion, something people grow up with. With this launch, we simply want to bring that same warmth, familiarity and honest cooking to the neighbourhood, just the way Banana Leaf has always done.”
With the Kandivali launch, the brand aims to expand to over 25 locations across key cities in the next two years.
