Hyatt Regency Chennai earlier hosted its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony with the children from Presidency Girls High School on December 1st 2023. They embraced sustainability by crafting a unique 20-foot-tall tree from donated children’s storybooks for the first time in Chennai. These books are now donated to the Presidency Girls School in Egmore, Chennai, fostering a love for reading.
Hyatt believes in incorporating sustainability into their endeavours, and hence they organized this book donation drive. Speaking about the library inauguration, Ruban Das, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Chennai, said, “As a global company, we strive to support organizations that align with our ‘World of Care’ platform. We are encouraged to align our charity activities with organizations that support caring for people, the planet, and/or responsible businesses. Nothing compares to the happiness seen on these young children’s faces when they received these books shared by all our wonderful guests.”
Hyatt Regency Chennai has been in the process of revamping the existing library at the school by conducting a book-donation campaign last year focused on collecting books for students from nursery to class 12. The restored library now has a collection of over 1,000 books that were donated during the campaign and handed over to the school.
The inaugural ceremony also brought joy to all the students and teachers at Presidency Girls School in Egmore, along with the management team of the hotel.
