In a shocking turn of events for music fans and musicians all over India, the much-awaited Ladakh Confluence, has been cancelled.
The move comes after threats from local groups. More than 20 music acts from across the world were scheduled to perform at the four-day festival.
Ladakhi political groups opposed the festival’s ‘drugs, western culture and rocking music’ and threatened the lives of the organizers. The Tourism Ministry also withdrew its support leaving the organizers with no choice but to cancel the event.
In an official press release, the hapless organizers, working with the active support of the Tourism Ministry, stated, “We believe this is a genuine loss for tourism in Ladakh, as we were expecting over 4000 visitors for the Confluence.”
The confluence was scheduled from the July 15– 18, 2010.
