5 charged for San Antonio hotel ID theft

(NULL)

Five people have been indicted after credit card numbers from thousands of guests at the Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio were found stolen.

Federal indictments outlined the alleged multistate shopping spree. Several defendants have been arrested.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom McHugh, most former guests didn’t know about the case, linked to the 2006 theft of receipts from a hotel storage room, until unauthorized charges showed up on their credit card statements.

All five defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit identity theft fraud. Other counts, against various suspects, include possessing counterfeit cards, equipment to make such cards, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.
