You’ve led rooms operations at top hotels like JW Marriott Pune and Le Méridien Kochi. What key challenge shaped your leadership style, and how will it influence the culture at Courtyard by Marriott Ranchi?
Every property presents its own set of challenges, but one that deeply shaped my leadership was managing large, diverse teams during peak occupancy periods while maintaining service consistency. At JW Marriott Pune, we hosted multiple large-scale events that tested our coordination and guest focus.
I learned that clear communication, empowerment, and empathy are the foundations of effective leadership. At Courtyard by Marriott Ranchi, I intend to cultivate a culture where every associate feels valued, heard, and inspired to take ownership of guest satisfaction. When teams feel supported, they naturally deliver beyond expectations.
Hospitality demands resilience. Can you share a moment you defied convention to tackle a tough situation, and the lessons it offers the industry?
During my tenure at Le Méridien Kochi, we once faced an unexpected system outage just ahead of a high-profile check-in. Instead of relying on manual chaos, we quickly reorganized — assigning specific team members to manage arrivals through personalized interactions while others handled back-end coordination on alternate systems.
We turned a potential crisis into a memorable service story, and guest satisfaction remained unaffected. It reinforced that resilience isn’t just about recovery — it’s about agility and teamwork. The industry must continue to prioritize problem-solving skills and flexibility over rigid SOPs when circumstances demand innovation.
Service excellence is anticipating guest needs. What innovations; technology, training, or partnerships, are you exploring to make Courtyard by Marriott Ranchi intuitive for guests?
We’re focusing on three key areas:
- Digital Empowerment: Leveraging the Marriott Bonvoy app for seamless mobile check-ins, keyless entry, and instant service requests.
- Predictive Service Training: Encouraging associates to use data insights from guest preferences and past stays to personalize experiences.
- Local Collaborations: Partnering with regional service providers and cultural curators to offer guests authentic, intuitive touches that reflect the spirit of Ranchi.
Our goal is to make service not just responsive, but preemptive — where guests feel understood before they even ask.
As the head of Rooms Division, what key strategies do you plan to implement to increase revenue while maintaining excellent guest satisfaction?
Balancing revenue and satisfaction begins with optimizing both people and processes. My focus will be on:
- Dynamic Pricing: Working closely with Revenue Management to adjust rates in real time based on demand trends.
- Upselling Training: Equipping front office and housekeeping teams to identify and convert upselling opportunities with tact and confidence.
- Guest Retention Programs: Encouraging loyalty enrollments and personalized recognition for repeat guests.
- Operational Efficiency: Streamlining workflows to reduce costs without compromising service quality.
Every strategic move will tie back to enhancing the guest journey — because sustainable revenue follows satisfied guests.
How do you balance maximizing room occupancy and optimizing room rates to boost overall hotel profitability in today’s competitive hospitality market?
It’s all about finding equilibrium through data and intuition. We use analytical tools to track market trends, competitor performance, and seasonal demands, but we also rely on our team’s local knowledge to interpret them smartly.
During high-demand periods, we prioritize rate optimization, ensuring we capture the right value. In leaner periods, our focus shifts to occupancy through targeted promotions and partnerships. The ultimate goal is not just to fill rooms, but to fill them profitably — ensuring that every guest stay contributes positively to both brand reputation and bottom line.
