Luxury spirits in India are undergoing a transformation — becoming younger, bolder, more design-driven, and deeply connected to culture. At the forefront of this shift is Shelter 6, a vodka shaped by the craftsmanship of Mokksh Sani, Co-founder of Cartel Bros, and the creative energy of Badshah, one of India’s most influential cultural voices.
In this exclusive interview, the duo opens up about the philosophy behind Shelter 6, the science and soul that define it, and how they envision its evolution from a premium vodka into a cultural movement.
Badshah, Shelter 6 has a sleek, premium feel yet stays approachable; much like your own artistic style. How did you shape the brand’s personality to reflect that balance and resonate with your audience?
To me, Shelter 6 had to feel real. It couldn’t be a brand that only spoke to audiences already familiar with premium spirits. It needed to look elevated, but it also had to feel like it belongs to everyone who brings energy, creativity and individuality into a room. My music has always lived in that same space – high-quality production with a very accessible, relatable and authentic vibe. I wanted the brand to reflect that balance.
That’s why the design is clean, modern and confident, but not intimidating. The bottle has presence, but it still feels like something you can reach for without a lot of contemplation. Shelter 6 carries a mix that I know my audience relates to: sophistication without ego, quality without distance. It feels premium because of the craftsmanship and attention to detail, but it stays approachable because the spirit behind it is inclusive, expressive and warm.
Mokksh, from Cartel Bros’ perspective, what guiding values or philosophies shaped Shelter 6’s identity and helped it stand out in such a competitive luxury spirits space?
At Cartel Bros, our philosophy is built around three things: integrity in craftsmanship, cultural relevance, and absolute authenticity. Shelter 6 was shaped with these values at the core. The luxury spirits market today is not only about a premium liquid; it’s equally about what the brand represents and how deeply it connects with people.
Shelter 6 reflects a new-age luxury that is all-inclusive, expressive, and steeped in real stories. We wanted to create a spirit with which people do not just admire but connect. Badshah strengthened that vision because he brings boldness, originality, and a strong cultural voice.
Our guiding values were straightforward: craft with honesty, innovate with confidence, and build a brand that people feel a part of. This combination of emotional inclusiveness and uncompromised quality does help Shelter 6 stand apart in a crowded category.
Badshah, every modern brand faces a pull between tradition and innovation. How does Shelter 6 walk that line; especially as an Indian brand aiming to make its mark globally?
For us, tradition and innovation aren’t opposites; they’re two sides of one journey. Shelter 6 is rooted in the traditional craft of vodka-making, including the six-stage distillation that gives it its purity and smoothness. That foundation matters because it proves the product can stand on its own anywhere in the world. But innovation is what shapes how we present ourselves.
The visual identity, the bottle design, the brand philosophy, the cultural energy; these are all created for a new generation that wants more than heritage. They want identity, connection and a sense of belonging. As an Indian brand, we’re proud to contribute something that’s world-class in quality yet modern in attitude. Shelter 6 respects the tradition behind great spirits, but it speaks the language of today. That balance lets us dream globally while staying true to where we come from.
Mokksh, Shelter 6 blends the science of six precise distillations with a strong emotional story. How did you strike that balance between technical excellence and storytelling that connects with people?
In premium spirits, science builds trust, but storytelling builds connection. With Shelter 6, both had to feel seamless.
Our six-stage distillation is rooted in classic Russian techniques the kind perfected in St. Petersburg, where purity, temperature control and precision define the craft. That process gave us a vodka that’s genuinely clean, smooth and world-class.
But technical perfection isn’t enough to make someone reach for a bottle. That’s where Badshah’s idea of Shelter came in; a feeling of belonging, energy and freedom. The balance happened naturally: the science gave us a product we could stand behind, and the story gave it a soul. Together, they turned Shelter 6 from just a vodka into an experience.
Badshah, beyond being a vodka brand, how do you see Shelter 6 growing into a cultural or lifestyle statement in India’s fast-evolving premium spirits scene?
Shelter 6 is not built to be just a drink. It’s built to be a feeling; a mindset, a space where people show up as themselves. India’s culture is shifting. People want brands that reflect individuality, creativity and confidence. That’s exactly the world we want Shelter 6 to live in. Music, fashion, nightlife, design, social energy; they’re all part of one ecosystem now.
Shelter 6 will grow within these spaces by becoming a symbol of high-energy self-expression. Smooth, modern and unapologetically bold, it becomes more than a product; it becomes a lifestyle choice. Shelter 6 has the potential to become a cultural marker for those who live with intention and authenticity. That’s the long-term vision: start as a premium vodka and grow into a statement about how you choose to show up in the world.
Mokksh, premium spirits are capital-heavy to produce, and India’s market can be unpredictable. How do you balance financial discipline with your commitment to quality and brand integrity?
The Indian spirits market is promising and complex, with state-level regulations, shifting consumer trends, and rising input costs. We approach this with a disciplined framework at Cartel Bros: invest where it truly matters, optimize wherever possible, and never compromise on quality.
Quality remains non-negotiable. The moment you dilute quality to cut costs, the brand loses its character; in the premium space, that loss is irreversible. At the same time, we operate with structured processes, strong supply chain systems, and scalable business models.
We also read the market closely. India is preimmunizing fast, and consumers are willing to trade up for better experiences. If we stay consistent, long-term brand value outweighs short-term fluctuations. Our balance comes from combining strategic discipline with creative ambition and staying anchored in the belief that strong brands outperform unpredictable markets.
Mokksh, As Shelter 6 expands beyond metro cities and experiments with new flavours, how do you plan to retain its aspirational edge and ensure the brand feels consistent and authentic?
A brand remains aspirational when it stays true to its core identity. For Shelter 6, that identity is clarity, energy and self-expression. Whether we enter a metro, a tier 1 or a growing market, these fundamentals will not change.
Our expansion strategy is deliberate. We want to scale up distribution without diluting what Shelter 6 represents. The same thought applies to new flavours. They will be crafted with the same precision and intent as the original, and they will always reflect the Shelter philosophy: smoothness, boldness, creative freedom.
Consistency will come from two areas: unwavering liquid quality across regions and variants, and a unified brand world where design, experience, and communication reinforce the same message of inclusivity and high-energy confidence.
As we grow, our aim is that Shelter 6 remains accessible yet aspirational, inviting to all-comers while retaining a point of difference.
