689 -Six Eighty Nine, led by Chef Jayraj Chandani, is a Japanese-inspired all-day Asian dining with live robata grill

The Quorum, India’s first homegrown private members’ lifestyle club, has opened a new Japanese-inspired all-day Asian dining with a live robata grill, 689 -Six Eighty Nine, in Gurugram. This is the fifth brand in The Quorum’s F&B repertoire, which already includes members-only experiences like Coalesce – The Brasserie and Providore – The Bar, as well as open-to-all restaurants Café Reed and Zila. Led by Chef Jayraj Chandani, 689 is a reservations-only restaurant, open to guests from 1st September 2024.

689 transforms throughout the day, offering a diverse culinary journey, from healthy breakfast options paired with Subko coffee in the morning to flavourful Asian dishes and delectable desserts during the day. The experience culminates in a vibrant evening of live robata grill dinners and curated cocktails.

Celebrating the culinary richness of the East, 689 offers a curated selection of authentic and reimagined dishes that promise to delight the palate. With a live kitchen that adds visual flair, the food at 689 teleports diners to the bustling night markets of Southeast Asia. Chef Jayraj Chandani, who has travelled extensively across Southeast Asian countries to experience and understand local flavours, has masterfully crafted a unique inaugural menu that features a blend of classic dishes alongside signature creations.

The menu includes a variety of offerings, from classic favourites like Banh Mis, Dan Dan Noodles, and Nasi Goreng to signature dishes such as Wok hei Pastas, Gochugaru Fish & Chips, and Flame-Kissed Avocado, which are perfect examples of tradition meeting contemporary cuisine. Additionally, the cocktail menu is equally enticing, with signature creations like the Saketini, Six80Nin-Tini, and Lion City Zest.

The cooking techniques at 689 draw heavily on Japanese traditions, particularly ‘Robatayaki’ (fireside grilling) and ‘Teppanyaki’ (metal plate cooking). 689 derives its unique name from the bamboo skewers of varying lengths, traditionally used in Robatayaki. In a nod to this heritage, the restaurant features skewers measuring 6, 8, and 9 inches, giving it the distinctive name ‘689 – Six Eighty Nine’.

Speaking about 689, The Quorum’s Founder and CEO, Vivek Narain, said, “689 is more than just a dining venue. It’s a sensory experience that transports guests through the vibrant and diverse flavours of Southeast Asia. This experience is brought to life with a design that seamlessly combines modern aesthetics with the charm of the Orient. We are excited about 689. It has the potential to become one of Gurugram’s most preferred destinations for Asian cuisine.”
