It’s that time of the year again — the season when the Indian hospitality sector turns its gaze towards one of its most respected platforms of recognition: the Hotelier India Awards. As anticipation builds for the 16th edition, the industry’s most influential leaders gathered at the newly opened Fairmont Mumbai for the prestigious Grand Jury Meet — a day marked by rigorous assessments, spirited conversations, and the unmistakable energy of excellence in motion.

Set within the opulent, artfully crafted Fairmont, the atmosphere crackled with excitement. Jury members, each a stalwart of the hospitality world, arrived ready to review, evaluate, and celebrate the very best across the industry.

Playing the consummate host, General Manager Rajiv Kapoor ensured the day unfolded seamlessly, with every detail reflecting Fairmont’s signature service ethos.

A Record-Breaking Year for Nominations

The 2025 edition of the Hotelier India Awards stands out not just for its scale but for its overwhelming response. With around 2,000 nominations pouring in — a new milestone in the platform’s history — the Grand Jury Meet began on a note of both pride and responsibility.

In his welcome address, Bibhor Srivastava, Managing Director, Events & Conferences, ITP Media India, emphasised the significance of this year’s surge: “The overwhelming volume of entries reflects the remarkable talent, innovation, and resilience that define our hospitality industry. We are privileged to have such an esteemed jury guide the selection of this year’s winners.”

The nominations, which opened in October 2025, evaluated achievements from November 2024 to October 2025 and spanned 20 categories, making it one of the most comprehensive assessments of hospitality talent in the country.

Each entry included detailed narratives, performance data, and comparative metrics, enabling the jury to assess year-on-year progress.

A Judging Process Built on Transparency

Jury members assessing nominations in Group Three room

With such a diverse and extensive pool of candidates, the Hotelier India team executed one of the most meticulous jury processes yet. The panel was divided into three specialist groups based on hotel segments:

• Group One: Luxury to Upper Upscale Hotels

• Group Two: Upscale to Midscale Hotels

•  Group Three: Economy to Budget Hotels

Before deliberations began, Srivastava conducted a detailed briefing to reinforce the awards’ commitment to fairness and rigour. The jury scoring system ranged from 0 to 10, where 0 indicated disqualified and 10 indicated exceptional excellence.

Amrapali Kata, CEO, Andhra Pradesh, Tourism Authority

He outlined four core parameters that have become the backbone of the judging system:

  1. Core Business Impact

Innovation, financial performance, decision-making excellence, and measurable contributions to business.

2. Resilience & Creativity

How nominees responded to shifts, overcame challenges, and delivered standout guest experiences.

3. Sustainability & People-Centric Leadership

Resource optimisation, environmental responsibility, and team leadership that drives outcomes.

4. Achievement Against Adversity

Stories of determination, adaptability, and success despite significant obstacles.

Armed with this framework, the jury moved into their assigned rooms — each transformed into a hive of discussion, analysis, and spirited evaluation.

Inside the Jury Rooms: Intensity Meets Insight

Once the doors closed, the action began. Nomination dossiers, case studies, performance matrices — everything came under the scanner as the jury debated, evaluated, and scored
each entry.

What emerged was more than just scoring; it was a pulse-check on the state of Indian hospitality. From resilience stories to innovation breakthroughs, the conversations reflected the industry’s rapid evolution in an era defined by technology, shifting guest expectations, and new operational realities.

After a brief break for a delectable lunch laid out by Fairmont at The Merchants restaurant, the panel gathered for a lively cover photo shoot, capturing the camaraderie, warmth, and collaborative spirit that define the Hotelier India Awards.

What the Jury Had to Say: Voices from the Room

Throughout the day, the jury shared candid insights — not just about the awards, but about the industry at large. Here are some voices…

Ranju Alex, CEO, South Asia, Accor: “Always so exciting to be here — to celebrate some great achievements of the industry. India is growing, and so is this industry, and so are its people. And this being the 16th year, the awards are only getting bigger and stronger. Having grown in the industry, I know how important it is for professionals to be acknowledged. May the best one win, and congratulations in advance to all the winners.”

Jatin Khanna, Chief Executive Officer, Sarovar Hotels & Resorts: “We had a great day and met so many colleagues. This is probably my fifth year, and we look forward to it every time — right from when I was a nominee to now being part of the jury. It’s the recognition that puts a spring in your step. This is one of the best platforms — we absolutely love being here.”

Kanika Hasrat, Senior Regional Director, Operations, Hilton South Asia: “The Hotelier India Awards are the numero uno awards — the ones that started it all. At one time, it literally felt like a Page 3 event. I’ve won multiple times here, so I know how tough it is. The next generation is astute, but what we look for is how someone has won through their career — for themselves and for their brand.”

Vishvapreet Singh Cheema, President, Lemon Tree Hotels: “It’s an honour to be part of what truly feels like the Oscars of the hospitality industry. This platform celebrates the incredible work done by leaders and their teams. It encourages them to explore new concepts, new avenues, and new ways to elevate guest experiences. I congratulate the Hotelier India team for creating a platform that recognises hard work across the country.”

Souvagya Mohapatra, Managing Director (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan), Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts: “We always look forward to these awards. After the awards, there’s a renewed energy, and people identify themselves with this recognition. Every year, the awards rise one more level, and I’m certain it will be even better next year.”

Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President, South Asia Marriott International: “The Hotelier India Awards are India’s first and oldest awards of its kind — a powerful recognition platform across brands and operators. I’m honoured to be part of this journey and look forward to meeting the finalists and the winners.”

Sonica Malhotra, Joint Managing Director, MBD Group: “It’s remarkable to see Hotelier India complete 16 years of recognising talent. The hotel industry demands a lot of hard work, and often those who put in so much don’t get recognised. This platform beautifully recognises and values talent — and motivates people to go further. I’m very honoured to be part of the journey.”

Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director & COO, South Asia Radisson Hotel Group: “16 years of the Hotelier India Awards is a milestone in itself. It truly is the Oscars of the industry. The camaraderie that Hotelier India has built within the industry is exceptional. According to me, hunger to grow and hunger to learn are the traits that define the next generation of leaders.”

The Road to Awards Night

As the sun dipped over Mumbai and deliberations wrapped up, the jury had completed the critical task of shortlisting the top three to five candidates in each category — except GM of the Year, which goes through an additional interview round.

For the highly coveted General Manager of the Year title, finalists will face in-person interviews on 17 December 2025 at JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity. All winners across 20 categories will be revealed at the glittering Awards Night on the same day.

But beyond awards and accolades, the Grand Jury Meet reaffirmed something deeper: the collective commitment of India’s hospitality leaders to nurture talent, elevate standards, and propel the industry forward.

A Legacy That Continues to Inspire

16 years on, the Hotelier India Awards have become more than a recognition platform — they are a mirror to the sector’s evolution. And this year’s Grand Jury Meet made one thing abundantly clear: Indian hospitality is not just growing; it is transforming.

The passion inside the jury rooms, the quality of submissions, and the energy across the day reflect an industry ready for its next leap.

As we now count down to the Awards Night, the excitement builds — not just to discover who wins, but to celebrate a sector that continues to push boundaries, redefine standards, and inspire thousands across the country.

The stage is set. The spotlight is ready.

And the stars of Indian hospitality are about to shine.
