Gevora Hotel, Dubai
Opened in 2018, the Gevora Hotel is a 75-storey tower capped by a golden spear. It is taller than the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel by merely a metre. Initially, the building was meant to be a residential tower; due to the economic slowdown, the builder, Al Attar Properties, decided to make it into a hotel. The hotel houses 528 rooms and is situated along Sheikh Zayed Road.
JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai
In Business Bay, the twin-towered JW Marriott Marquis opened in 2013 and held the record for the tallest hotel for five years before being overtaken by the Gevora Hotel. The symmetrical towers house 804 rooms each. The towers were built to provide views of Burj Khalifa, Business Bay, and the sea. The hotel also boasts 12 award-winning restaurants, bars, and lounges.
Four Seasons Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Located in Malaysia, the Four Seasons Hotel is a 75-story building with a 21-metre-high steel crown at the top of the tower, making the tower 343 metres tall. The building was developed by Ipoh-born Singapore tycoon Ong Beng Seng in partnership with Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir and the Sultan of Selangor under Venus Assets Sdn Bhd.
SLS Dubai Hotel and Residences
Developed in partnership with World of Wonders Real Estate (WOW RED), the soaring property has brought together some of the region’s top talent to do their part in bringing the property to life. Located in Downtown district, SLS Dubai offers incomparable 360-degree views over the city, with unobstructed views of the iconic Burj Khalifa and a clear overhead of the calming Dubai Creek.
Rose Rayhaan by Rotana, Dubai
This four-star property made headlines when it took the tallest hotel title from Burj Al Arab in 2009. Unlike the famous sail-shaped hotel, the Rose Rayhaan Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road is largely focused on business travellers and GCC leisure guests, with an alcohol-free policy. Abbco Group, the developer of Rose Tower, planned to build a 1,250-foot (380-meter) tall skyscraper, which would grant it the solid first place for the tallest hotel in the world even today. However, they settled on a more modest 1,093 feet (333 metres) and 71 floors for the blue-toned skyscraper with a rose-shaped spire.
Burj Al Arab, Dubai
One of Dubai’s most famous landmarks, this sail-shaped luxury property has been the benchmark for many looking to elevate Arabian luxury hospitality. When it opened, it was one of the tallest hotels not only in Dubai but in the world. Comprising only 199 luxurious suites ranging from 169 sqm to 780 sqm across 56 floors, the hotel was designed by Tom Wright of WKK Architects.
Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai
Construction of Jumeirah Emirates Towers started in 1996. Designed by architect Hazel Wong, who still counts it as her favourite project, the hotel is one of the two towers, the second being a 350-metre office tower. The two towers are connected by a central podium called the Boulevard. The hotel officially opened its doors ahead of schedule on April 15, 2000.
Baiyoke Tower II, Bangkok
One of the tallest towers in Bangkok, the Baiyoke Tower II was completed in 1997. The 88-storey hotel features 673 guest rooms and is in the city’s bustling Pratunam shopping district. It is also famous for its rooftop bar on the 83rd floor as well as its 360-degree revolving roof deck on the 84th floor.
Wuxi Maoye City, Wuxi
The first supertall tower in Wuxi, a city in Jiangsu province on the east coast of China, this hotel opened in 2014, spanning 68 storeys. The modern tower is one in a complex of six towers, meant to be the centrepiece of a new central business district in the city.
Address Beach Resort, Dubai
Standing within the popular Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) neighbourhood, the hotel features two twin towers connected by the world’s tallest inhabited sky bridge. Designed by Al Ain Holding, the 77-floor hotel has 217 guest rooms and suites, ranging from deluxe rooms all the way to the expansive three-bed Presidential Suite.
