India wins 12 honours at Conde Nast Awards

Oberoi and Taj took four honours each at the 2009 Conde Nast Readers’ Travel Awards with the Taj’s Rambagh Palace in Jaipur being voted the best hotel in the world. Overall, Indian hotels and resorts won twelve awards.

Rambagh ranked second overall scoring 95.62 points. Only Italy’s island of Sicily was first with 95.70 points. India ranked 13 in the list of countries but did not feature in the main list of Top 100.

Other Indian hotel winners include Leela for its Bangalore Palace, Ananda in the Himalayas, the Devi Garh and the Malabar House.

The Rambagh Palace also won the best leisure hotels category for Asia and the Indian sub-continent. The Taj West End, Bangalore was voted the eighth best overseas business hotel and the Taj Exotica Resort & Spa Maldives ranked 18th as the best overseas leisure hotels for Middle East, Africa & the Indian Ocean Islands.

Oberoi won only in the leisure hotels category for Asia and the Indian sub-continent ranking seventh for The Oberoi Amanvilas, Agra; 12th for The Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur; 13th for The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur and 19th for The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Ranthambore.

Other winners in the same category include the Devi Gargh, Udaipur ranking fifth and The Malabar House in Fort Cochin ranking 15th.

The Leela Palace Kempinski in Bangalore was voted the 14th best overseas business hotel. The Ananda in the Himalayas was voted the third best destination spa in the world.
