Luxury travel company Virtuoso has awarded Karambir Singh Kang, general manager at Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace & Tower its hotelier of the year for 2009. Kang was GM at the time of the terrorist attack last November in which he lost his family. He still continues as the hotel’s GM, a factor which led to the award.
Applauding Kang’s award, Raymond Bickson, Taj’s MD & CEO said: “We congratulate Karambir and take pride in his honour. Karambir’s contribution to Taj has been unparalleled. He has exhibited great passion, resolve and strength and has contributed immensely to his hotel’s success.”
Kang visited Last Vegas to collect the award given annually at the Virtuoso ‘Best of the Best’ Hotel Awards. The citation honoured his commitment and dedication in making the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, one of the best hotels in the world.
The other winners of 2009 are Hotel of the Year: Park Hyatt Shanghai, Shanghai China; Most Innovative Guest Experience: Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay, Musandam Peninsula, Oman and the Best Culinary Experience: Rossillinis, Palazo Sasso, Ravello, Italy.
