Westin Mumbai Garden City, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s (NYSE: HOT), will celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2011 with a rally to spread the message of environmental sustainability.
The rally will commence from the hotel with the objective to spread the green message and en-route the team will cover the local area with banners propagating environment friendly messages. The entire Westin Mumbai Garden City team will be present to support the rally including the department heads and General Manager Lance Ourednik. The residents of the hotel will also be invited to join in the rally and show support towards the World Environment Day.
Post the rally, General Manager Lance Ourednik, hotel manager Sushil Sharma and the rest of the department heads will visit Bal Vikas, a shelter home for children. The Westin team will join forces to beautify the Bal Vikas garden area thereby making it a green and clean play area for the children residing there. The Westin team will not only clean up the gardens but will also plant trees in and around Bal Vikas.Further the team will take up the responsibility to maintain these gardens.
Speaking on the initiative Ourednik said, “We, at Westin, are very conscious of promoting eco-sustainability and are constantly endeavouring to reach out and spread the message. Keeping in mind the theme for the World Environment Day 2011 – ‘Forests: Nature at Your Service’ we decided to spread the joy of nature by cleaning up the gardens and planting saplings at Bal Vikas. Our efforts will not only give these little ones a better environment to learn and play but also an important message towards the importance of preserving mother nature!”
