A roundtable organised by Telangana Tourism brought together government and industry representatives to discuss the role, governance, and long-term direction of the proposed Telangana State Medical Tourism Society (TGMTS), along with a framework for an integrated Medical Value Tourism hub in Hyderabad aimed at positioning Telangana as a coordinated medical tourism destination.
Industry Expectations From TGMTS
The first session reviewed TGMTS as the central body for Medical Value Tourism in Telangana, covering stakeholder alignment, governance, and coordination. Participants highlighted Hyderabad’s clinical strengths, infrastructure, cost advantage, and integrated ecosystem, and discussed policy support, global outreach, grievance redressal, and facilitator licensing to ensure credibility and consistent patient experience.
Proposed Integrated MVT Hub
The second session discussed a framework for establishing an integrated MVT Hub in Hyderabad, proposed as one of the five national hubs in the Union Budget, including a greenfield medical city in a PPP model with hospitals, wellness providers, ayurveda institutes, a medical college, research centres and tourism facilitation, with a detailed recommendation paper to be prepared.
Sector Growth Outlook
India’s medical value travel sector continues to expand under the national Heal in India initiative, with industry estimates placing the market at USD 20.4 billion by 2026 and USD 25–28 billion by 2030, driven by rising global demand, improved visa facilitation, and integrated care delivery.
Hyderabad’s Push Toward Leadership In Medical Tourism
Hyderabad ranks among India’s top three medical value travel destinations and aims for leadership through TGMTS, supported by rising international patient inflows, 50+ accredited hospitals, ~12,000 beds, and strong global connectivity via Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Chairperson of the round table discussion, V.
