Pune Marriott awarded LEED GOLD certification

The Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre has been awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The hotel, with its various green initiatives, is the only hotel in Pune and the first Marriott in India to receive the honour.

Since its inception in November 2010, the property has effectively worked towards saving and preserving natural resources and the dignity of the environment. It has strategically and conscientiously incorporated and adapted Low VOC emitting materials, native plantations, green power, landscape water usage, renewable materials, energy savers, hybrid vehicles, 100% percent waste segregation, ozone depletion methods and many other environmentally friendly features.

On receiving the award, the general manager of the Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre, Balan Paravantavida said, “The Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre is truly honoured to have received the LEED Gold Certification. We at the hotel have always gone that extra step to ensure that we are responsible citizens. We look forward to continuing our efforts and contributing towards a greener world.”

Panchshil Group are premium builders of high end residential and commercial complexes in the city. Build and owned by the Panchshil Group, the property has been built in a manner that ensures 75% of the hotel enjoys day lighting; the hotel contributes towards saving power. The Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre has also always used 100% CFC free refrigerant materials used for air-conditioning thus contributing towards reduction in ozone (O3) depletion and as a policy ensures that it uses only ‘Green Seal’ certified chemicals in all its housekeeping activities. The hospitality brand has also encouraged its associates to add to its green ideologies by introducing car-pooling programmes.

The property will be further improvising on their energy efficiency, renewable energy, indoor environmental quality and storm water management techniques.
