Hotels celebrate green week

Westin Mumbai Garden City, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s (NYSE: HOT), celebrated the World Environment Day with a rally and spread the message of environmental sustainability.

The rally commenced from the hotel with the objective to spread the green message and en-route the team covered the local area with banners propagating environment friendly messages. The entire Westin Mumbai Garden City team was present to support the rally including the department heads and General Manager Lance Ourednik. The residents of the hotel were also invited to join in the rally and show support towards the World Environment Day.

Post the rally, General Manager Lance Ourednik, Hotel Manager Mr. Sushil Sharma and rest of the department heads visited Bal Vikas the shelter home for children. The Westin team will join forces to beautify the Bal Vikas garden area thereby making it a green and clean play area for the children residing there. The Westin team will not only clean up the gardens but will also plant trees in and around Bal Vikas. Further the team will take up the responsibility to maintain the gardens at Bal Vikas.

Speaking on the initiative Lance Ourednik General Manager Westin Mumbai Garden City said “We at Westin are very conscious of promoting eco-sustainability and are constantly endeavouring to reach out and spread the message. Keeping in mind the theme for the World Environment Day 2011 – ‘Forests: Nature at Your Service’ we decided to spread the joy of nature by cleaning up the gardens and planting saplings at Bal Vikas. Our efforts will not only give these little ones a better environment to learn and play but also an important message towards the importance of preserving Mother Nature!”

Park Plaza Gurgaon organized a Walkathon to celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5 in which the hotel guests, employees, business partners and employee families participated. This was a drive to spread eco-awareness and increase green footprint in the city. The event featured a special Green Walk from the hotel to Leisure Valley in an effort to spread eco awareness. Everyone carried banners, placards, posters with environment messages to create awareness amongst Gurgaon community. The walk culminated at the Leisure valley where everyone planted saplings in a gesture of harmony and care for the environment. The community members who had come to the park for their morning walk were also encouraged to participate and were given away free saplings.

‘World Environment Day was an opportunity for us all to get involved in something which is critical for our shared future and work in a co-ordinated manner to empower us all to play an active role in protecting our environment. Our planet deserves more than half measures.’ says Simarjeet Singh, General Manager, Park Plaza Gurgaon.

Aditya Park & Aditya Hometel organised “Green Warrior Mission” on the occasion of World Environment Day to create awareness and emphasis on being environmental friendly and develop a better and clean surrounding. This event was designed specially to educate people on the present scenario of declining environment concern and increase participation of the common man in the initiative.

As a part of the event the employee task force at the Aditya Park & Aditya Hometel was given five tasks to perform, where they were required to inform, motivate and create awareness amongst people about importance of “Green Surrounding” and effects of climate change. Participants took the immense pleasure in clearing the polythene bags from the Ameerpet area, making posters and interacting with locals on the issues pertaining to environment safety and hygiene. Select environment based clips were also shown to the passerby for enhancing their knowledge.

The Orchid’s Green Team Celebrated World Environment Day at Inorbit Mall, Malad. The team distributed free saplings of the following house plants: Chlorophythum, Money Plant and Singonium. The team distributed over 1,200 saplings to patrons of the mall.
