Claridges Hotels & Resorts acquires Lohagarh Fort

Suresh Nanda-promoted hotel firm, the Claridges Hotels and Resorts, has acquired the 100-year-old Lohagarh Fort in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, as part of a strategy to spread its wings around the country.

The company currently owns and operates three hotels under the Claridges brand – one each in New Delhi, Surajkund (Faridabad) and Mussorie, and a 3-star business hotel under the Atrium brand in Surajkund.

“We have entered into agreement with the owners to acquire the 89 acres of land, which includes the heritage property under a 99-year lease agreement,” said Peter J Leitgeb, president and chief executive of the Claridges Hotels & Resorts. The agreement was done with Maharaja Vishwendra Pratap Singh.

Leitgeb refused to reveal financial details of the deal but added that the company is looking to develop 40-45 luxury villas on the vacant land in addition to running the palace.
