Goa is embracing a new era in tourism, one focused on sustainability, data-driven insights, and a globally connected hospitality ecosystem. In the 9th Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte highlighted initiatives that aim to enhance visitor experiences, strengthen regulatory oversight, and ensure that Goa remains India’s premier travel destination.
Landmark Initiative: The Tourist Information Management Enterprise (TIME)
A significant part of this transformation is the introduction of the Tourist Information Management Enterprise (TIME), which will become mandatory for all hotels and accommodations by April 1, 2025.
By utilizing real-time data analytics, this system will enable the government to gather critical insights into visitor demographics, travel trends, and patterns. These insights will be used to drive strategic interventions, creating a seamless and efficient hospitality ecosystem in Goa.
Surge in Tourism: Record Occupancy and Growth
In the last quarter of 2024, Goa saw a 22% growth in tourism, with 100% occupancy rates and full-capacity flights. This growth resulted from collaboration with stakeholders, discussions with Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, and a focus on quality tourism.
Expanding Global Connectivity
Goa is strengthening its position in high-value global markets with 26 new direct flights from Poland and improved connectivity with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The Airline Incentive Scheme aims to boost Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) and position Goa as a top travel hub for affluent tourists.
The United States, ranked second in tourist footfall across India and fourth in Goa, highlights the state’s increasing global appeal, according to the Incredible India 2024 report.
Enhancing Global Presence
Minister Khaunte emphasized the importance of Goa’s participation in international events to bolster its global presence and positioning. He highlighted that the agencies handling these initiatives are carefully selected through a structured tender process, ensuring a high standard of international engagements.
E-Visa Accessibility: Streamlining International Travel
The state is actively working to improve e-visa accessibility, a key issue being addressed with the central government. This initiative, highlighted in the Central Budget, aims to streamline the process for international travelers, making Goa more accessible and appealing to global tourists.
