The Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Swiss Wine India, successfully unveiled the first-ever Swiss Pavilion at ProWine Mumbai 2025 held at the Jio World Convention Centre. The initiative, a direct outcome of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), translated policy into practice by celebrating craftsmanship, culture, and cross-border collaboration.
Showcasing Swiss Winemaking Excellence
The exclusive VIP Wine Tasting spotlighted ten celebrated Swiss wineries, featuring over 50 premium wines. Sessions such as “The Alpine Whites of Switzerland” and “Pinot Noir: The Soul of Swiss Terroir” offered connoisseurs and sommeliers an authentic taste of Switzerland’s winemaking artistry.
More than 60% of the wines showcased were crafted from indigenous Swiss grape varieties, underscoring Switzerland’s focus on artisanal production and regional identity. For these boutique winemakers, India represents not just a new market, but a cultural bridge built through craftsmanship and storytelling.
Strengthening Trade and Cultural Ties
Speaking at the event, Satish Rao, President, Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce, shared, “The Swiss Pavilion is a celebration of how trade can build cultural bridges. TEPA has opened new doors for Swiss makers to connect with India’s vibrant consumer landscape.”
He also highlighted that since TEPA’s signing, the Chamber has helped secure USD 2.1 billion in investment commitments, with a binding commitment of USD 100 billion and 1 million direct jobs projected over the next 15 years.
India’s Evolving Luxury Landscape
With a median age of 28, an expanding middle class, and over 100 million aspirational consumers, India is emerging as a global lifestyle economy. Its cosmopolitan hospitality sector — spanning Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru — is driving demand for premium European wines, whose imports have tripled in the past decade.
A Symbolic Beginning
As part of the Chamber’s 2025–26 Swiss–India Engagement Calendar, the ProWine debut sets the tone for deeper trade and cultural collaborations. From the vineyards of Lavaux and Valais to the skyline of Mumbai, the Swiss Pavilion stands as a testament to shared passion, craftsmanship, and growth — proving that when passion meets business, both nations rise together.
