A massive fire broke out at the Chiltern Firehouse, a renowned five-star hotel in the heart of Marylebone, London, prompting the evacuation of 100 guests. The fire, which took over five hours to control, has led to a full investigation by the authorities, as per a BBC report.
SITUATION UNDER CONTROL
London Fire Brigade responded to the blaze, with multiple fire crews working tirelessly to bring the situation under control. Despite the scale of the fire, no injuries have been reported. Videos circulating on social media showed fire officers using a crane to extinguish the flames, which were seen engulfing the top of the building.
The fire is believed to have started in the ducting and rapidly spread from the ground floor to the roof of the four-story hotel.
AN A-LISTERS FAVOURITE
Located on Chiltern Street, the Chiltern Firehouse occupies the site of a Victorian fire station built in 1889. The hotel opened in 2013 as a 26-suite luxury venue with a 200-seat restaurant.
The Chiltern Firehouse has been a popular destination for celebrities over the years, hosting A-list stars such as Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and many more. The hotel’s bar and restaurant are also frequently visited by British stars and international celebrities.
CLOSED TILL FURTHER NOTICE
In fact, it was due to host the Netflix BAFTA Awards party on Sunday, but owner Andre Balazs confirmed that the venue would remain closed “until further notice” due to the extensive damage.
Incidentally, the hotel, known for its exclusivity and lavish offerings, charges up to £760 (Rs 83,000) per night for a stay.
While the fire is now under control, significant repairs will be necessary, and it is expected that the hotel will remain closed for some time. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
