Kamat Hotels empower people with disabilities through employment at Odisha

A collaboration with the Government of Odisha promotes inclusivity and empowers individuals with hearing and speech impairments in the hospitality sector.

In a significant initiative promoting inclusivity and empowerment, Kamat Hotels (India) Ltd., in collaboration with the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Government of Odisha), celebrated the induction of eight students with hearing and speech impairments into their workforce at IRA by Orchid Hotels Bhubaneswar, Lotus Resort Konark, and Mahodadhi Palace Puri.

Event Highlights

The event was hosted at the Development Commissioner’s Office and witnessed the participation of notable dignitaries. Anu Garg, IAS, Development Commissioner of Odisha and Additional Chief Secretary of the Departments of Water Resources and Planning & Convergence, Government of Odisha, facilitated the students, recognizing their accomplishments and encouraging them as they embark on their professional journeys.

Other eminent attendees included Balwant Singh, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Tourism, Bharat Bhusan Biswal, Regional General Manager of Kamat Hotels (India) Ltd., Sarda Ghosh, Principal of IHM Bhubaneswar.

During the event, Anu Garg lauded the initiative, emphasizing its potential to inspire other industries. “This collaboration is a step toward building a more inclusive and equitable society. Such efforts demonstrate how partnerships can empower individuals with disabilities and integrate them into the mainstream workforce,” she said.

Leadership Vision

This initiative was inspired by the vision of Vithal Venkatesh Kamat, Chairman of Kamat Group and Vishal Kamat, Executive Director of Kamat Hotels (India) Ltd. whose dedication to inclusivity and social responsibility has shaped the company’s culture. Speaking on their behalf, Bharat Bhusan Biswal shared, “The initiative is a testament to the thought leadership of Kamat and Vishal Kamat. They believe that true hospitality extends beyond services to creating meaningful opportunities that empower individuals from all walks of life.”

Empowering New Hires

As part of the initiative, an orientation program was organized to prepare the new hires with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the hospitality industry. This milestone underscores Kamat Hotels’ mission to integrate inclusivity into its core operations and inspire others across sectors.
