Air India and Maldivian have entered a bilateral interline partnership aimed at boosting connectivity between the two countries. Through this new partnership, Air India provides its guests convenient access to 16 islands across the Maldives via Maldivian’s extensive domestic network. Travellers can now enjoy smooth connections through Malé to destinations such as Hanimaadhoo, Kooddoo, Gan, Kaadedhdhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, Dharavandhoo, Maafaru, and Kadhdoo, among others.
This partnership also enables Maldivian to welcome Air India guests arriving from Delhi and Mumbai, or those connecting through these major hubs, onto Maldivian-operated flights from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to Malé and Hanimaadhoo Island.
Seamless travel on a single itinerary
The interline agreement allows guests of both airlines to travel seamlessly on a single ticket combining Air India and Maldivian flights, ensuring effortless transfers and coordinated baggage handling.
“The Maldives continues to be one of the most preferred leisure destinations for Indian travellers, and this interline partnership with Maldivian opens the door to the country’s lesser-explored atolls and islands,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India. “By combining Air India’s global network with Maldivian’s domestic reach, guests can now discover the true diversity of the archipelago on a single itinerary.”
Strengthening air links and tourism growth
Air India is currently the only carrier operating daily flights between Delhi and Malé, providing a crucial capital-to-capital connection. With more than 55,000 seats deployed annually (one-way) to the Maldives, Air India plays a major role in supporting the nation’s tourism and trade sectors.
Its extensive global footprint across five continents brings passengers not only from India but from Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East to the Maldives via Delhi.
“This partnership marks a new chapter in our efforts to expand accessibility to the Maldives and provide connectivity for passengers traveling beyond Malé to the atolls,” said Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director, Maldivian. “With Air India’s strong network and our reach within the Maldives, this collaboration will be crucial in supporting tourism and business travel between our nations.”
A shared vision for regional collaboration
The agreement aligns with both airlines’ strategic goals to enhance regional cooperation, improve customer experience, and contribute to tourism growth through stronger network integration and smoother connections.
Together, Air India and Maldivian are opening new pathways for travellers looking to explore the Maldives beyond its well-known hubs—making the archipelago more accessible and more connected than ever before.
