Depot48 launches Khasta, a tandoor-led kulcha concept for modern dining

Reimagining the traditional kulcha as a complete, generously filled meal.

Depot48 has announced the launch of Khasta, a delivery-only food concept that reimagines the traditional tandoori kulcha as a complete, generously filled meal. Rooted in warmth, familiarity, and everyday comfort, Khasta draws from Punjabi household traditions while responding to contemporary eating habits.

Honouring art and artists in a deeply rooted way, Depot48 has always centred its ideology on innovation and creativity. Emerging from a core Punjabi household sensibility, this tandoor-led innovation is designed to bring together comfort, flavour, and convenience—packed into a single, satisfying bite.

Familiar flavours with unexpected twists

The Khasta menu strikes a thoughtful balance between comfort and surprise. Classic favourites like Amritsari Aloo-Pyaz Kulcha with Amritsari Chhole, Butter Chicken Kulcha with Makhni Gravy, and Delhi Mutton Nihari Kulcha sit alongside more experimental combinations such as Mushroom Truffle Kulcha with Mirch Ka Salan, Pulled Jackfruit & Podi Kulcha, Goan Chorizo Blue Cheese Kulcha, and a distinctive Gur-Dal Halwa Dessert Kulcha.

Texture as the heart of the experience

At the core of the Khasta concept lies texture. The kulchas are slow-crafted, sealed, and cooked in the tandoor to achieve crisp edges, layered interiors, and the structural integrity required to hold rich, slow-cooked fillings. Designed to travel well and reheat easily, the format delivers a complete and satisfying meal without the need for elaborate plating or multiple accompaniments.

The meaning behind the name

The name Khasta refers to a texture deeply familiar in North Indian cooking—crisp, flaky, indulgent, and comforting. While the word has no direct English equivalent, it conveys both physical satisfaction and emotional comfort, anchoring the concept firmly in everyday Punjabi food culture.

A full meal built for today’s eating habits

Positioned as a full meal in a box, Khasta is suited to a range of modern consumption moments—from casual gatherings and long winter evenings to at-home delivery, where convenience matters but flavour cannot be compromised. It is food designed to be shared easily, eaten anywhere, and enjoyed without ceremony.

Founders’ perspective

Speaking on the launch, Vikas Narula and Girjashanker Vohra, founders of Depot48, said, “We both grew up in Punjabi households where food was generous by default—it was meant to warm people, be shared, and leave you feeling full in every sense. With Khasta, we wanted to translate that instinct into a format that works for how people eat today. It’s familiar food, made thoughtfully, that doesn’t ask for ceremony or context. You can eat it anywhere, share it easily, and still feel completely satisfied.”
