Obama visit spells big news for hospitality sector

Ahead of US President Barack Obama’s address to CEOs in Mumbai, the White House announced deals worth almost $15 billion between US-based companies and Indian organisations.

In the area of security which has lacked serious focus in the past, the Maharashtra State Police and Palantir Technologies in Silicon Valley have announced a strategic partnership agreement for a pilot program on an end-to-end analytical software platform to identify and alert authorities about security threats. After 26/11, this could go a long way in ensuring the safety of tourists, including hotel guests and citizens of Mumbai.

Pre-fabricated construction could soon come to India in a big way resulting quicker construction of hotels and earlier project completion. Hindustan Prefab has purchased six sets of hollow core, precast production equipment, including installation, training, and after-sales support from Spancrete Machinery of Wisconsin. This transaction is valued at approximately $35 million.

Hoteliers and developers could also soon be able to quantify their efforts in green building, taking the concept from a mere buzzword to real, measurable effort in sustainability. Chennai-based Wysine Technology and Noveda Technologies of New Jersey are, according to the White House statement, finalizing a joint-venture to develop and market a solution for web-based, real-time energy monitoring for the greening of buildings.
