The government of West Bengal has put forth a request to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to commence seaplane services in Digha. The proposal comes in line with a report which highlights Digha emerging as a tourist destination in Bengal. Besides, the state government has already commenced building the infrastructure of this beach town.
The government is also trying to invest in seaplanes in order to lure more tourists to the state, which will ultimately help in improving the local economy. Several development works have been undertaken in Digha and other beach destinations of East Midnapore. The reports also suggest that the state government is looking forward to introduce water-friendly aircraft that will land on water. The passengers on board can then onboard vessels or boats to come ashore. Reportedly, it is also possible that the flight operations may get started from the Cooch Behar Airport.
