According to Anuj Chaudhry, General Manager of ibis Gurgaon Golf Course Road, planning for sustainability cannot be a one-time event, but should be a continually evolving process. That is the secret sauce to making a company’s green strategy more efficient and effective.
Fortunately, Accor’s Planet 21 programme outlines several set of steps for its hotels across the world to pursue to achieve the company’s ultimate goal of reducing environmental impact and making a positive change. This envelops efforts to promote recycling, reduce wastage of water, energy conservation, and judicious usage of paper as well as limiting single use plastics. The company continued its pledge and commitment to sustainability consistently since 2012, and continued doing even during the pandemic under the umbrella of Planet 21.
While adhering to the Accor-driven green strategy, Chaudhry believes that every hotel should have a long-term plan that reflects positively on the unit’s financial objectives. This can be bet achieved by setting goals, big and small, which are in sync with the overarching corporate programme.
Chaudhry has tried to be innovative at Ibis Gurgaon Golf Course Road in this matter and find new methods. “In addition to deploying efficient lighting systems and water filtration units, I strongly believe in collaborating with partners to develop a strong and efficient vendor management system. This is a path worth pursuing where we proactively identify compliant vendors,” he stated.
After implementing various sustainable initiatives, he added that it is important to step back and survey what has been accomplished. By objectively examining successes and mistakes, hoteliers can evaluate how to plan their future roadmap and if needed, branch out in newer directions. Chaudhry claimed that integrating friendly and financially viable practices into a singular business strategy would be the key to success, or rather sustainability. It will also help them tide over crises with better agility.
