On the noon of June 12, 2025, what should have been a routine meal hour at the doctors’ hostel mess in Ahmedabad turned into a scene of unimaginable horror.
Moments after take-off, Air India Flight AI-171 – a Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick – plummeted from the sky and struck the B J Medical College hostel complex, crashing directly into its mess hall.
A Space of Solace, Suddenly Shattered
The hostel mess served hundreds of young medical students and resident doctors at any given time.
Nestled within the B J Medical College campus in Meghani Nagar, it was more than a dining hall. It was a community space for shared stories, tired conversations after night shifts, and small moments of calm in demanding routines.
According to initial reports, many students and junior doctors were present during the impact.
A fire broke out immediately. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities arrived swiftly but struggled with the wreckage, as large parts of the aircraft were still smouldering and debris blocked access to victims.
Precious Lives Lost!
As per the latest report on Indian Express, all passengers on board the flight had lost their lives.
FAIMA Doctors Association said on X, “We are deeply shocked about the news of AI  crashing in Ahmedabad. ! News have become more gruesome after finding out that flight had crushed in BJMC, Hostel & many MBBS students have also been injured!!!! We are monitoring the situation closely & are ready for any help!”
