Bandra’s new Pause Café welcomes with its inviting sheet glass windows and a cheery green leaf sign, while blue brackets outside double up as seating. Inside, the sunlit, minimalist 32-seater features a nature-inspired palette, wooden-rafter ceiling, mixed material walls, Rajasthani marble counters, and soft, sculptural lighting. The food, crafted with fresh ingredients, care and even plant based menu, offers a refreshing reset for the palate.
A plant based menu with global appeal
Pause’s plant based menu offers a range of cold and hot beverages, all-day breakfast items, soups and salads, sandwiches and sliders, smoothies and bowls, and desserts, across American, Mexican, Continental, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines. They’re vegan, and ‘clean’ and the café also offers a separate Jain menu, as well as gluten-free options.

Highlights from the table
The Avocado Toast with green pesto, sauerkraut, and dukkah on sourdough bread is chewily delicious, while the Akuri Toast surprises with its soft scramble of tofu with thecha oil, garnished with potato salli and spices on toast – the creaminess of egg minus the peculiar smell of the original – what’s not to love! The Korean Cheese Bun is definitely moreish but it’s the Lotus Stem Chips served with kafir lime chilli aioli that steals our heart.

Wholesome mains
For the mains, my dining companion and I share the Mediterranean Bowl – a wise decision given the very generous portion of falafels, millet tabbouleh, pickled carrot, radish and cucumbers, olives, grilled veggies, hummus with chilli oil, beetroot borani, and tahini garlic sauce. Very satisfying, indeed!

A sweet ending – or not
Whether the Tiramisu, Chocolate Orange Mousse that’s also diabetic-friendly, 24 Carrot which incorporates moist, spice-laced carrot cake served with gajar halwa and saffron-infused mylk; or the Hazelnut Praline Cheesecake – Enjoy it all.
