Leading an all women-led team in a traditionally male-dominated industry like hospitality is groundbreaking. Can you share any unique challenges you’ve faced, and how you’ve worked to overcome them?

Leading an all-women team in the hospitality industry, which you rightly said has traditionally been male-dominated, has been both a rewarding and transformative experience. While the journey has been inspiring, it also comes with its unique challenges.

One of the key challenges has been breaking stereotypes and ensuring that every team member is empowered to take on roles that were previously considered unconventional for women. From security to engineering, we have worked towards building confidence and equipping our team with the necessary skills to excel in every department.

Another challenge has been fostering a strong support system to balance work and personal commitments. Hospitality demands long hours and dynamic schedules, so we have focused on creating a workplace that prioritises well-being, flexibility, and mentorship.

Through continuous training, leadership development, and a culture of mutual respect, we have not only overcome these barriers but also set an example of how diverse and inclusive teams drive excellence. The journey continues, and we remain committed to inspiring more women to step forward, lead, and redefine industry norms.

Given your extensive experience in various leadership roles, from Housekeeping to General Manager, what leadership principles or practices have you found most effective in developing high-performing teams in the hospitality industry?

Throughout my journey across various leadership roles in hospitality, I have found that empowerment, adaptability, and a strong team culture are the key principles in developing high-performing teams. Giving team members ownership of their roles fosters confidence and accountability.

When people feel valued and trusted, they go above and beyond to deliver exceptional service. As a leader, demonstrating the same passion, resilience, and commitment you expect from your team sets the right tone and work ethic. Continuous learning and development – investing in training, upskilling, and mentorship – helps individuals grow into leaders themselves.

I have seen first-hand how the right guidance can unlock potential in unexpected ways. Last but not the least – people-first culture – ultimately, hospitality is about people, both guests and employees. Creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment ensures that teams remain motivated, engaged, and inspired to deliver their best.

By fostering these values, I have seen teams not just perform efficiently but thrive, bringing passion and excellence to everything they do.
