“Food is not only a question of palate”- French Institute hosts discussion on diversity, equity, sustainability of food

The discussion was part of the series of such initiatives organized by the French Institute in India (IFI), the educational, scientific and cultural department of the Embassy of France in India

Under the prestigious international event ‘The Night of Ideas’, a French initiative, prominent chefs and thinkers came together to discuss food in its totality at the Indian edition, A Night of Chefs & Ideas, at the Sunder Nursery. 

In association with Prabha Khaitan Foundation and Shiv Nadar University, celebrity chefs Saransh Goila, Radhika Khandelwal, Farm markets expert Mekhala Krishnamurthy, Agriculture policy expert Rajeswari Raina, Eco-socialist Corinne Morel-Darleux, Natural Farming strategist Swati Renduchintala, and Farmer & Policy expert Ajay Jakhar were among the guests speakers, discussing food as not only a subject of diversity, gastronomy and heritage, but also politics. The discussion was moderated by award winning journalist Shoma Chaudhury. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of France to India, His Excellency Emmanuel Lenain said: “Food production and consumption are fundamental to human life. From food is derived pleasure but also nutritive qualities that are essential for our bodies to function properly.”​ 

The initiative was titled “More?”- a part of “TheNight of Ideas”, started by France in 2016 in Paris. In 2022, this initiative was organized in 200 cities across five continents, from Paris to New York, Fiji Islands to New Zealand, Seoul to Shanghai, and New Mexico to Tokyo. The 2022 India edition was held at the iconic Open-Hand Monument in Chandigarh. This year, it is being held in seven Indian cities – Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, Varanasi, Chandigarh, Pune and Ahmedabad.
