Sushma Khichar, Cluster General Manager, Courtyard by Marriott Bengaluru ORR and Fairfield by Marriott ORR Bengaluru.
  • From being a science graduate till becoming one of the successful GMs out in the hospitality industry, how do you feel about your journey so far?

Gratitude which came along with a lot of learnings and that in turn made me a highly confident person both personally and professionally.

  • You started in the front office department and climbed the hospitality ladder up, which of the hospitality departments did you like working the most (Front office, business, sales, etc.)

Front office of course as this remains very close to my heart, however what I enjoy the most lately in my career is Sales for the hotel. Dynamic market especially during pandemic and even more interesting post pandemic.

Fairfield by Marriott ORR Bengaluru.
  • What GM learnings do you bring to both of the hotels?

To be agile and be on top of the business not only from sales perspective but from every operational area of the hotel. To understand the market trends and adapt them to create more interesting and innovative.

  • Any two hospitality trends that you swear by?

Innovation and creativity.

  • What untapped opportunities can both hotels explore by utilizing their existing infrastructure?

Outdoor caterings, conceptualizing new restaurant concept in the existing space/infrastructure.

  • How are training and development being taken up by the hotel?

We are getting back to basics with new/fresher generation coming on board which is the need of the hour and at the same time feels like a great platform as we would be able to mould the new generation in original hospitality standards.

  • Any two of your leadership qualities which you would like to showcase?

Passion and be the people person.

  • Can you describe your overall hospitality journey in 2-3 words?

Content, grateful and successful

  • Where do you see yourself taking the brand in the next 2-3 years?

My team and I would like to like take Courtyard and Fairfield brand to be an aspirational brand which is energetic and a head of industry changes.
