The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a notice to Wildflower Hall, owned and operated by Oberoi Hotels and Resorts on the outskirts of Shimla, according to a report by IANS.
The report quoted Nagin Nanda, member-secretary, Himachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board, as having said that the notice has been issued on environmental grounds.
Allegedly, sewage is being discharged into a natural drain in the forest surrounding the property, which is contaminating drinking water sources of more than 12-villages in the vicinity.
Nanda went on to state that collected water and soil samples show traces of contamination due to discharge of effluents.
When contacted by Hotelier India, the Oberoi Group corporate communications declined to comment, and said that the general manager Robert Mason had not received any official notice from the government as yet.
