Kadavu Resort and Vythiri Village

A 23-acre resort added to this ATM regular by Kadavu Resorts, says Elizabeth Thomas

Kozhikode, one of the northern districts in Kerala, offers an eclectic blend of the Hindu and Mappila cultures. In the midst of this multi-ethnic and pristine landscape, Kadavu Resorts – a five star resort cum business hotel – sprawls across a nine-acre plot.

Kadavu has been regulars at the Arabian Travel Mart since the year 2000. And, the Middle East region has constituted a major share of their business pie, from the beginning. Around 50% of their visitors are foreigners, of which 10% are from the GCC countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Last year, the resort saw more than 15,000 foreign tourists.

What’s new
For Kadavu, one of the major attractions at Arabian Travel Mart in Dubai, this year, would be their brand new five-star property in Wayanadu named Vythiri Village that opened in April 2010. Built on 23 acres of land, the resort merges effortlessly with the pristine Malabar hills around.

It has around 180 rooms with 90 cottages and also flaunts a high-tech conference hall, spacious enough to accommodate 2000 delegates, when fully commissioned.

Ayurveda and its motley packages, a staple at Kadavu Resort, will also be a major attraction here. Other major draws include shopping for rare spices and the opportunity to closely watch the tribal dance of life at Wayanadu.

The Chembra peak and Karanchi stream adds to the serenity of the place and is matched by the uncompromising luxury of its cottages and tree house villas perched on a hillside. Interestingly, one of the major factors that have helped the business at Kadavu is the connectivity provided by Kozhikode international airport.

“For us, other than our regular clients, most of our Middle East visitors were brought in by non-residential Keralites, who recommend our hotel to their bosses and friends,” says N K Mohammed, Managing Director, Kadavu Resorts.

“The ATM Dubai has helped getting traffic to our properties. In the beginning, we were the only property from India to go for the Dubai ATM; now there are many,” he adds. Kadavu also has their own travel agency in Dubai, Gulf Holidays through which they maintain a high clientele.
