The green welcome

Following ITC’s corporate environment initiatives and guidelines, Welcomhotel Vadodara had gone in for an energy audit in January 2008.

The hotel has taken a number of green initiaves to save upto 1,69,62,540 KCal energy, which is more than seven per cent over last year.

The Vadodara property also follows the company’s WelcomEnviron vision for a green world. It is a multi-faceted programme started in order to propagate environmental causes in the cities where ITCWelcomgroup’s hotels are located.

Following the principle of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’, each hotel has its own programme, encompassing local participation, creating awareness among employees and internal conservation.

“As per our corporate office guidelines, we had gone for energy audit for our hotel. The idea was to have a better process control in place to achieve higher energy efficiency,” said Devender Choudhari, chief engineer, Welcomhotel Vadodara.

The hotel has taken various measures in order to conserve energy. “In HVAC, we have replaced the old system with a high energy-efficient green 300TR centrifugal chill-er. We have also initiated the usage of VFDs (variable frequency drive), in AHU (air handling unit), supply and exhaust blowers, cooling towers and water pump,” Choudhari added.

Their investment for green initiatives has a payback period of less than three years.
