Tourism recovery prospects strong: UNWTO

(NULL)

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) new report states that conditions for the recovery of tourism worldwide are looking strong. These include macroeconomic upward revisions from the IMF along with preliminary international tourism data through August.

The first half of 2010 likely will show moderation in the declining results, continuing a current slowdown during the past few months. International tourism arrivals, for example, declined by only 4% in July, compared to decreases of 10% in May and 7% in June.

In absolute terms, the number of international tourist arrivals worldwide reached 500 million during the first seven months of 2009, down from 540 million for the same period in 2008.
