Lalit VP predicts healthy winter occupancies

The Lalit Hotels vice president for marketing has said he expects the winter season to show up to 15% higher occupancies than the same period a year ago. Shobhu Mathew said in the Economic Times: “There is a surge in corporate business with conferences and meetings going as planned. We believe that the winter would witness 10-15% higher occupancies than last year.”

He added that room rates have not increased as would have been hoped.

His comments came as the airline industry reported similar growth in passenger numbers. Several airlines have reported 60% bookings for the next several months, and domestic air passenger numbers jumped 31% in September to 35,50,000.
