Bastian Bandra, the popular Mumbai restaurant co-owned by actress Shilpa Shetty and restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, will shut down this week, marking the end of a nearly decade-long run.
Located on Linking Road in Bandra West, the restaurant first opened in 2016 and later moved to a larger space in 2023. Known for its seafood specialties, chic multi-level interiors, and celebrity clientele, Bastian Bandra quickly became one of Mumbai’s most sought-after dining destinations.
According to IANS, a lot of speculations have been doing the rounds that the establishment is closing due to Shilpa and her husband, Raj Kundra’s, reported financial fraud. However, the real reason is not known yet.
Shilpa Shetty’s Heartfelt Goodbye
Announcing the closure, Shilpa Shetty shared on Instagram: “This Thursday marks the end of an era as we bid farewell to one of Mumbai’s most iconic destinations; Bastian Bandra. A venue that gave us countless memories, unforgettable nights, and moments that shaped the city’s nightlife now takes its final bow.”
The restaurant will host a farewell evening for its loyal patrons this week.
New Beginnings: Ammakai and Bastian Beach Club
While Bandra marks the closing of one chapter, Bastian Hospitality is ready to script two new stories.
From mid-October, the iconic Bandra space will be reborn as Ammakai, a specialty South Indian restaurant. Meaning ‘the mother’s hand’, Ammakai embodies comfort, warmth, and authenticity. It pays homage to South Indian culinary traditions, celebrating recipes steeped in heritage, enriched with regional flavours, and served with the impeccable quality synonymous with Bastian.
Simultaneously, the brand is expanding to Juhu with the launch of the Bastian Beach Club; a coastal destination designed to capture Bastian’s signature energy of indulgence, vibrance, and celebration.
Ranjit Bindra on the Future
Ranjit Bindra, Founder & CEO of Bastian Hospitality, reflected on the journey and the road ahead: “Bandra was where Bastian’s journey began, and it will always remain close to us. As we evolve, it feels right to honour the depth of South Indian cuisine through Ammakai, while also bringing the energy and indulgence of Bastian to Juhu in a fresh new way. We’re closing one chapter, but two new stories are waiting to be written, and we can’t wait to welcome you into them.”
