Champions of Sustainability - Sachin Mylavarapu, GM, JW Marriott Mussorrie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa

Sachin Mylavarapu, General Manager of JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa strongly believes that it is more important to feed the earth than to expect earth to feed us. With this mindset, the hotel has developed several sustainability programmes, which can excite its guests and the local community.

The hotel is part of the ‘Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy’ experiences, which includes the ‘Implant Nature’ initiative. Guests at the property can join in the hotel’s afforestation initiative and plant a sapling to conserve the topsoil erosion from the Garhwal Range at the Himalayan foothills.

To strengthen their bond with the plant and give it a personal touch, they can even name it. Moreover, JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa share photos of the plant’s growth every month and year so that guests can be part of its development.

Nestled as it is in the verdant green valleys, with towering oaks and winding walking trails, the resort serves as a reminder of the magnificence of nature. Hence, by involving more people in its tree planting initiative, it can do its bit in promoting reforestation of the region.

Mylavarapu also revealed that the hotel also cultivates its own vegetables in its JW Gardens. To ensure that the produce is of excellent quality, it collaborated with a local association to gather knowhow on the best horticulture practices.

With wellness being a keyword at the resort, there is a lot of focus on using plant-based protein in its homegrown food menu. Its culinary teams use seasonal and local produce, like ‘Kala Bhatt’ found in the Himalayas to sustainably grown millets and Himalayan Red Rice cultivated at its gardens, which are healthier and packed with flavour. A horticulture expert also organises walks for guests in the nearby locales to improve their knowledge about the local flora and fauna.

There is no denying that sustainability is the need of the hour. JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa wants to do its best to help its guests and associates make going green an easy choice.
