An effective anti-spam and web protection software along with a provision to set up internet security and usage compliance policies makes the eScan V.10 by MicroWorld a popular product.
Picture this.
You arrive for a short visit to the city of your dreams; take loads of photographs, and download them on your laptop using the network at your hotel and a portable device (like a USB flash drive). Unknown to you, there is a hidden virus on your mobile device and that not only affects your laptop, but also attacks the hotel’s network.
Here’s another scenario.
There are lots of guests arriving for a convention at your hotel, and front desk personnel download the emails listing the details, and the hidden malware (malicious software) attached to it. Before you know it, the hotel’s entire database is corrupted and a hacker is using your guests’ data.
And here’s a simpler one. One of the employees is chatting with a friend, and the network gets invaded through spyware, and that affects the performance of the whole system.
These scenarios might sound like the stuff nightmares are made of but they are increasingly reflecting the reality. While the Internet has led to better connectivity, it has increased security risk.
Viruses transmitted through emails, fraudulent hacker emails designed to allow access to client information, or corrupted mobile storage devices, data protection and security are becoming increasingly critical for all industries. More so for the hospitality industry, due to its emphasis on better interactivity and customer satisfaction.
One of the better solutions in the market for this issue is MicroWorld Winsock Layer (MWL), developed by MicroWorld Technologies.
MWL stops dangerous content right at the transport layer, before it hits the applications and affects systems. The company was incorporated in the USA in 1993, and now has branches all over the world.
Govind Rammurthy, the CEO and managing director of MicroWorld, explains, “Information security is a major concern across industries where confidential data is stored or processed. Today, having a firewall software or perimeter level information security will not suffice; information security has to be implemented and managed at the endpoints too.
Easy availability and large scale use of portable storage devices has increased the risk of virus infections and information theft through them.
It is even more crucial in the hospitality industry , since loss or theft of confidential customer information can have a negative effect on their growth and reputation. To address these issues, IT managers need a comprehensive solution that provides multi tier protection not only from virus infections but also prevents data theft.”
One of the key products from MicroWorld is eScan, the version 10 of which has just been released. The product sets up a protection center that consists of file and mail anti-virus software that scans the files and mails of a system as they are accessed, safeguarding workstations from issues ranging from future threats to spam emails.
In addition, the protection center provides anti-spam and web protection installing a firewall.
There is also a provision to set up internet security and usage compliance policies to allow for more efficient internal monitoring and administration.
In terms of endpoint security, (client data security), it provides privacy control, scanning all folders and storage devices for possible threats.
Clients at different locations can use the management console, which provides updates along with consolidated reports about virus alerts, net browsing, application and USB drive usage on the clients’ systems.
There are two ways by which clients can get these updates: either through the console at a dedicated server with the management console on it, or through the MicroWorld server itself.
Other products by MicroWorld include MailScan—that protects the mail servers; X-Spam—a dedicated antiSpam and antiphishing solution; and eConceal—a network firewall designed to protect the internal network against attacks via the Internet. All of these products have been tested and approved by independent evaluators and offer 24×7 online support.
Sanjay Dalvi, the IT Manager at Hotel Seasons has been using MicroWorld products for a while. He says, “These products have helped make our content more secure and also helped us in setting up compliance policies for Internet usage on our systems. The best thing is the prompt online support offered by the MicroWorld personnel.”
In a world where there is increasing insecurity and uncertainty, such a testimonial proves that customer trust is indeed MicroWorld’s asset.
