IIFA in Colombo for cricket

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) will be spearheading a charity initiative in Colombo, in recognition of the devastating scale of the conflict in Sri Lanka.

Through the efforts of IIFA, the UNICEF and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, contributions in lieu of financial resources are being made to the ‘Cricket for Change’ project wherein former child-soldiers are being rehabilitated.

Nishantha Wickramasinghe, chairman, Sri Lankan Airlines, is quoted as having said that the government of Sri Lanka is making a considerable investment in this event, and a large number of government agencies and private sector organisations are hard at work developing Colombo’s facilities to host this event, to be held from the 03-05 June.

As a symbol of solidarity with the Sri Lankan people, IIFA in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, will adopt and rebuild a village for refugees, with the proceeds of the cricket match being donated to this cause.
