A panel discussion on talent and operations in the hotel industry at HICSA 2011 yesterday, revealed that industry veterans feel that a lack of talent is their “own fault” and that the next big crisis will be that of talented people.
Chaired by Hotelier India, the discussion saw The Leela president Rajiv Kaul say that the hotel industry needs to take drastic steps to talent deficit in the industry.
“It is something that this industry, as a whole, needs to take steps to correct. We are responsible for this and it is our own fault. We need to create training schools to churn our talent that is of our standards now,” said Kaul.
Adding to it, Trident president Rattan Keswani said: “It is a shame that we cannot use the majority of students that pass out of our own national hotel schools. They are just not upto the mark and are not employable.”
With the amount of hotels planned for the next five years, the hotel industry is already facing a massive talent crunch, which hoteliers see as the next big crisis.
