The Westin Sohna Resort and Spa this week launched a photography competition in association with Canon that seeks to “reconnect people with nature” and raise awareness of migratory birds that travel to the nearby area each season.

Each year over 100 different species of rare migratory birds travel to the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary near Sohna from Europe, Siberia and Central Asia. These include the ashy prinia, greater flamingo and magpie robin, most of which can be witnessed at the resort.

The initiative, which ends on June 15, will offer amateur and experienced photographers a platform to share their pictures through demo cameras provided by Canon. Any guest who checks in to the hotel can participate, and the best guest shots will be available for viewing and purchase through the Canon outlet at the resort.

Jerome Lienart, the resort’s manager, said: “The essence of this contest is to ensure that we capture the beauty of nature that unveils itself in every passing moment.”

Guest entries will be judged by a select panel from the hotel and Canon, and winners will be based on creativity, originality and concept. The winner will receive a Canon DSLR, and other prizes will include a Canon PowerShot and free stay and meal vouchers.
