India Budget 2024: Focus on domestic, spiritual tourism, island infrastructure, FDI (First Develop India)

The Government will invest significantly in the tourism sector in the country, said FM Nirmala Sitharaman.

India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Budget to the Parliament today, said India’s economy is going through a profound transformation. She also added that the Government will invest significantly in the tourism sector in the country.

Key highlights on the tourism industry:

  • “Tourism, including spiritual tourism, has tremendous opportunities. The success of organizing G20 meetings in 60 places presented the diversity of India to global audience. Our economic strength has made the country an attractive destination for business and conference tourism.”
  • “Tourism, including spiritual tourism, has tremendous opportunities for local entrepreneurships. States will be encouraged to develop iconic tourism centres.”
  • “To address the emerging fervor for domestic tourism, projects for port connectivity, tourism infrastructure and amenities will be taken up on islands, including Lakshadweep. This will help in generating employment and promoting investments.”
  • “For encouraging sustained foreign investments, we are negotiating bilateral investment treaties with our foreign partners in the spirit of FDI (First Develop India).
