Singapore wins IKA/Culinary Olympics 2016

The participation of 25,000 visitors, including chefs, industry partners, gourmets and hobby chefs, turned the IKA/Culinary Olympics into a gastronomic highlight of this year. Singapore won the battle of chefs in the national competition cooking with professional cooking technology by MKN.

“We were bigger and better than ever before”, said Andreas Becker, president of the German Chefs Association, while summing up the IKA/Culinary Olympics experience 2016, which was held at the Messe Erfurt in Germany from 22nd to 25th October, 2016. “The new category for the Junior National team, the ‘Edible Buffet’, was especially successful.”

For the very first time in 116 years, the Junior National Teams did not prepare a cold plate presentation, but prepared an edible buffet, that could be tasted and enjoyed by judges and guests alike. “That is definitely the way the IKA is headed to. We want to be more sustainable with our resources and give our guests a special highlight to look forward to,” Becker stated.
Over 2,000 chefs from 59 nations prepared more than 7,000 fresh meals In 18 glass kitchens, which were equipped with MKN technology – ranging from the traditional appliances to the multifunctional combi-steamer and FlexiChef. The winner of the competition was the team from Singapore, while Finland won silver and Switzerland won the bronze prize.
