Wyndham Hotels Group is finally on the move in India, with four new franchise agreements for its Ramada brand. This brings its total Indian tally to 14. Although the Group has been present in India, it has unable to find a successful footing thus far.
The properties scheduled to open later this year include the 140-room Ramada Amritsar, owned by Starex Developers; the 130-room Ramada Gurgaon Expressway New Delhi, owned by Sartaj Hotels; the 392-room Ramada Plaza Dwarka New Delhi, owned by Tirupati Buildings & Offices; and the 100-room Ramada Gurgaon Central, owned by Greenland Hospitality.
This is Wyndham’s first announcement with regards to its Ramada brand in India. Worldwide, it operates 13 brands, of which only two – Ramada and Howard Johnson – are operating in India.
Wyndham also has plans for its mid-and-lower mid-market brands – Days Inn and Super 8 – in the country, which it announced with construction company Gammon India in 2008. The company still nurtures plans to re-introduce its Microtel brand which stalled at inception.
“We feel the need to better define our brands for the Indian market. This is an important area for us,” said Eric Danziger, president and chief executive officer, Wyndham Hotel Group, in response to a question posed to him during the Hotel Leader Forum at the HIFI 2010.
